Thank you for visiting Winnie. This teddy bear has now been adopted. I look forward to sharing my next available teddy bear here with you soon!
Winnie, rare black bear, is 20" tall and was created from German mohair, with wool felt paws. This fine teddy bear is five way jointed with traditional hardboard joints. Winnie has classic black glass eyes and a neatly embroidered black perle nose. She is stuffed with polyester and plastic pellets to give a little weight and has a traditional tilt growler in her tummy. Winnie wears a bell tied around her neck on a cord. I have named my black teddy bear in honour of Winnie, an orphaned black bear cub rescued from her captor at a train station in Winnipeg in Canada, by Harry Colebourn, a young veterinary soldier. Harry left his little black bear cub in the care of London Zoo when he went to war in 1914 and later permanently donated her to the zoo. Winnie, a very trustworthy and sweet natured bear, quickly became a firm favourite with thousands of visitors and captured the heart of A.A. Milne's son Christopher, who was permitted to feed Winnie condensed milk when he visited her. In 1926 A.A. Milne wrote 'Winnie the Pooh', taking inspiration from his son's beloved 'Winnie', the motherless black bear cub, who had travelled all the way from Canada to London Zoo. One of a kind, hand crafted, teddy bear. Original design and creation by Paula Carter. Please note: my teddy bears are designed as adult collectibles and are not classified as suitable for use as children's toys under the age of 14 years. This teddy bear ships tracked and insured from the UK.
